About Popstatic What the people have to say: "What can I say about Popstatic that hasn't already been said about Afghanistan? He's bombing the shit out of your musical preconceptions but in Popstatic's musical world he's given all the reconstruction contracts to musical architects that actually deserve. Behold the new world order." "Jarrett always loved music but wasn't the best at describing it to people that weren't as knowledgeable. I'm talking about subgenres and movements only 20 people must have known about. Give me a point of reference man, before you get all deep!! Help us out!" "When you were 5, you told me that I was not allowed to boss you around and tell you to take a bath, because under the constitution, you had rights. You were also the only 2 year old in your preschool class who could do 2 different imitations of Richard Nixon." "I've been trying to do a colabo with Popstatic for 2 years. I haven't taken his ignoring me personal, cause he's better at everything than me - even being mean." "When I hear the name Popstatic it brings a repressed memory to mind. It's one me and the parents of my neighborhood vowed to never talked about, but it deals with vigilantly justice. All jokes aside he is one of the finest selectors I've heard. His diverse tastes in music and culture make him someone definitely worth taking notice of. If you don't you'll just be a bandwagon jumper. You want to be the "Where were you when Popstatic was playing in this dive bar." Not "OMG Popstatic is doing a cameo with Lady Gaga." "This guy was into melodic dubstep and beard house before anyone. Always quality selections from Jarrett and can't wait to see what he starts pumping out of the studio." "Jarrett likes walruses. I am not sure why." "When I see that Jarrett's released a new Kaleidoscope mix I stop whatever I'm doing and listen to the whole thing right away. He's turned me on to countless electronic artists through this and through personal recommendations. He's a perfectionist to a fault and hilariously cynical about everything." "As a former KJHK alum myself, I have to assume he learned to DJ on the turntables in the shack, which, as a former student of the turntables at the shack, I can tell you is no easy feat. It's a wonder he's made it this far. Even if that isn't true, I'll tip my cap to him anyway for being one of the most technically sound DJs I know, and a pretty alright dude." Mission: Popstatic is the DJing and production moniker for Chicago-based DJ/producer/graphic artist Jarrett Spiegel. Mr. Spiegel is currently living in Chicago and making a living as a jack-of-all-trades freelancer dabbling equally in DJing, music production, graphic design, illustration, writing and now, maintaining this here website. After receiving an Illustration degree from the University of Kansas and spending a year in London, Jarrett returned to Chicago and began working as a member of then-Chicago-based band Walter Meego. He remained a member of the band for roughly 2 years before splitting and launching Popstatic as a guise for all of his various music-related activities. After another two years of work for Chicago's Groove Distribution, he finally went on the ultimate solo mission and opted for the full-time freelancing schedule that he now enjoys. In need of a vehicle for these various projects being juggled and pursued, this site was launched to be the promotional forum for all things Popstatic-related and more. The blog will cover new music and graphic art projects, club nights and events, the latest installments of his 'Kaleidoscope' online radio show and podcast, and general musings of many different varieties. The site encourages feedback and discourse of any and all varieties so feel free to chime in and let your voice be heard. Other various notes:
