Showpage

The latest installment of my 'Kaleidoscope' show for Samurai.fm is now up and available for download. The mix is available via the 'Kaleidoscope' podcast on iTunes or for download, directly from this site via the podcast section.

As for the mix itself, I've spent a long time in the process of making this one come to life. I apologize for the delay in its completion but getting this site up and running has been priority #1 since the 1st of the year.

Now that the site is fully operational though, you can expect the 'Kaleidoscope' series to remain back in business for the forseeable future. So... It is with great relief that I may finally present to you the latest edition:

... As is the case with most 'Kaleidoscope' shows, this is a mix that reaches far and wide, across multiple genres and musical styles in order to create something that is hopefully new and uniquely conceived. There are songs from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's... Songs made by artists from far-reaching locales such as Scotland, England, Brasil, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Wales, Germany, America (of course) and for all I know, even more.

On a personal level and as of late, I've struggled to find new sounds and records that have interested me to the degree that I could create an exclusively brand-new or current selection of tracks over the last month or two (like I have done with the last two 'Kaleidoscope' installments). So... In response, I've decided to go another direction altogether. With this new mix, I've given a shot at integrating several songs that I'm EXTREMELY familiar with and trying to render them anew. By that I mean that I've taken a number of songs that I've known and listened to for many years, combined them with a small selection of recent tracks from the last year or two that have struck me as particularly fitting of the 'Kaleidoscope' aesthetic, and then integrated them into a seamless whole.

Songs like 'Human Behaviour,' 'Girls & Boys,' and 'True Faith' are songs that I've been listening to for well over a decade. Heard through my own ears, these are songs that have SOMEHOW remained listenable after hundreds of listens and though they may no longer pack the punch they once did for me (pre-saturation), they're still songs that I believe in, and that I think will remain relevant for years to come. In other words, when I'm out DJing publicly, am struggling to think of what to play next and need to fall back on an old standby, these are the sorts of tracks I tend to reach for.

I realize it's no small feat to integrate songs like these into a contemporary DJ mix and make them sound like they fall in line with what is happening currently in the club music world but frankly, I'm not sure I care. After all, the mixes I make for the 'Kaleidoscope' show have never been made with the intent of either making money or following trends; they exist purely as a labor of love type of affair, regardless of whether or not I ever stand to directly gain anything from them at all.

After all's said and done, and regardless of whether I decide to go with an extremely current selection of music for one show or with a more ambitious and wide-ranging selection (like this one here) for the next; I'd like to think that you can always hear the typical 'Kaleidoscope' aesthetic at the forefront of what I'm doing and that (more importantly) you enjoy it. With that, I'd like to wish you all happy listening with the latest edition. Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments in response!
